As a girl, I was encouraged and inspired by my secondary school maths teacher, and so grew my love of mathematics and the dream of a career as a teacher, to follow in his footsteps
And that is exactly what I achieved, teaching in secondary schools and colleges in England and on the Island for a period of six years. However, I was keen to find and embrace a new challenge, where I could apply my mathematics degree in a new and complex way and this is where my career as an actuary at PwC began.
My job involves calculating future risk in the insurance industry, using high level probability, statistics and models, which has really opened my eyes to the global economic and business world and I can honestly say I learn something new and exciting every day.
My STEM degree has certainly allowed me to have a self-guided, versatile and challenging career path to date and I’d highly recommend a mathematics degree to anyone who has a keen interest in numbers.
